We are so pleased for SIPX and the announcement of their Series B funding. When we first met with now-CEO Bob Weinschenk in early 2012, he had been pinged by Stanford University to help figure out what the commercial opportunities might be around the SIPX technology. The XSeed team worked closely with Bob and the other Co-Founders (Mike Genesereth, Roland Vogl and Franny Lee) over 4-5 months to focus on the key strategic issues for the technology. We then led the firm’s seed round, and were fortunate to get Miriam Rivera of Ulu Ventures to co-invest and join the Board. One of our Executives-in-Residence, Karen Alter, was so excited about the opportunity that she took on the role of the firm’s COO.
Since then, SIPX has executed in an unbelievably systematic fashion, signing up universities and publishers to create the best way to quickly, easily and safely clear digital content in academic settings. And the technology has broad applicability across a variety of markets for the future.
Now, the team’s getting Jon Feiber of Mohr Davidow Ventures to join the Board is a real coup — there are few people in the venture industry with Jon’s breadth and depth of experience.
Way to go Bob and crew!
